Founded in 1949 by Willie Sr. and Beatrice Marque, the company was originally a corner grocery store with a fresh chicken dressing station that was to provide the foundation for Marque's full time entry into foodservice distribution.
When son Willie Jr. joined the business in 1974, he decided the long-term future of the company lay in product distribution, not retail. With one truck, fifteen customers, and a limited product line consisting of fresh chicken, fresh eggs, and smoked sausage, he began focusing on food distribution. Willie Jr. continued to service this segment and capitalize on growth opportunities by broadening Marque's product mix by 300 items in 1996.
Third generation, Steven Marque joined the business full time in 1996. Together with his father Willie Marque ., the company has grown by increasing its distribution center and increasing SKU's over 7000. Today, Marque's Food Distributors helps answer the needs of thousands of customers throughout the metropolitan New Orleans Area and chain stores across the Gulf Coast. In 2006 Marque's opened its first market on the West Bank of metro New Orleans called Marque's Food Wholesale Market. This member ship free market is open to both restaurants and public.
